One thing to keep in mind is the underpinnings in the system just aren't there yet. Reactos explorer does this as well (that is, it's a 95-esque lookalike).

Calmira is a shell to give win3x a win95 desktop look and feel. Tzok wrote:So there should be a great chance that actually the real Windows NT 4.0 shell will run under ReactOS (or a shell known as the NewShell for NT 3.51).Īnd writing about Calmira - it just looks better than your shell and has an working equivalent of explorer (the part that in Win98 was replaced by IE - accesed by double clicking My Computer icon on the desktop), while ROS has only a kind of windows explorer clone (with very primitive look). At this moment it's important to complete the Reactos API, there are enough other shells. The LFN-support is based on a DOS-driver totally useless in Reactos. If you use Calmira on a 32bit system the icons on the desktop are minimized windows. Also don't forget there's a difference in the way Win32 and Win16 draws the windows on the screen. It is maybe possible to recompile it as 32bit program, but that won't be easy. As you said Calmira is 16bit, as far as I know Reactos only supports 32bit applications.

The ReactOS Explorer (+shell32, etc.) is the default shell, and there is no need to replace it.Īlthough you can use your favorite shell instead if you want, ReactOS is open source and you are free to do what ever you want if you respect the GPL(/LGPL/etc.) licenses. Execpt the shell come with its own bunch of dlls, but i haven't seen such a shell for Win32. So even if you want to use another shell, there is no way around. Although, in ReactOS some features are not available or are only stubs, because the shell32.dll is not finished nor a system clipboard is available. The ReactOS Explorer is far away from be complete, but it works at least in WinXP great, and most features are available (because of WinXP's shell32).

So maybe it would be possible to compile it as a 32 bit program. What's more interesting Calmira is Open Source. Tzok wrote:I know that Calmira is a Win16 program compiled in Delphi 1.0, but it looks far better than currently ReactOS looks, also has much more functional filemanager and a complete My Computer functionality.
